William Charles McGetrick

William McGetrick, 85, passed away on February 4, 2022, at Masonicare in Wallingford, CT. He was the loving Husband of Geraldine Owens McGetrick for 56 years. William was born on April 11, 1936 in Danbury, CT to the late Jack McGetrick and Ethel Johnston.

After graduation from Danbury High School in 1955, William enrolled in the Army where he served honorably and proudly from 1955-1957. He was stationed at Fort Collins in Colorado and in Germany.  Following his service, William started his career as a railroad engineer with Conrail, and later worked for Metro-North, retiring after 40 years in the railway industry.  William loved sports, especially horseracing, Detroit Tigers, playing golf and swimming. He loved to listen to all kinds of music and loved spending time with his family.

William is survived by his devoted wife Geraldine Owens McGetrick, sons Edward McGetrick (Iris), Kevin McGetrick, James McGetrick (Joan) and daughter Deirdre McGetrick, six grandsons; Dillon Gilbert, Justin McGetrick, Jared McGetrick, Daniel McGetrick, Ryan McGetrick and Finnegan McGetrick and several loved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother Donald McGetrick and his sister Maureen Fiddner.

Calling hours will be held Friday February 11, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Carpino Funeral Home,  750 Main St. South, Southbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial for William will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St South, Southbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in William name to Alzheimers Association, https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate, or Southbury Needy Fund, Southbury Needy Fund, PO Box 72, Southbury, CT 06488.
