Tom was born on March 7, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late Austin Sargent and Katheryne Glenn Sargent. He graduated from John Adams High School in Ozone Park, Queens, NY in 1950. Shortly after graduating high school, Tom served honorably and proudly in the Air Force for 8 years. Tom started his professional career working for AT&T and continued until he retired from the company.
From 1962 until 2003, Tom and Doris lived in Franklin Square, NY, where they raised their family and were active members of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. In 2004 they moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, CT.
Tom enjoyed both playing golf and watching golf on TV. Over the years he was a babysitter, cheerleader at his grandchildren's sports games, and always enjoyed hearing what his grandchildren were up to. Tom loved sharing stories about his life with his family. He was active in his condo meetings in Heritage Village for many years and served as the Cluster Captain of his condo. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, working on puzzles, and building model ships. Tom especially enjoyed sweets and was never known to turn down a cookie when offered!
