SOUTHBURY – Steven Charles Ernt, 65, of Southbury, CT, died peacefully on July 19, 2018, with his wife by his side. Married in 1989 in Kingston, RI, he was the beloved husband of Dr. Patricia Irene Mulcahy-Ernt and devoted father of Jonathan Michael Mulcahy Ernt.

Born in Minneapolis, MN in 1952, he was the son of Robert William Ernt and Mary Jeanne Ernt and was raised in St. Anthony Village, a suburb of Minneapolis, MN. He is survived by his wife, son, mother, brother Robert Ernt (Lois) and sister Susan Wakefield (Gregory), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graduate of the St. Anthony Village High School, he was a top athlete in basketball and football, earning all-conference honors in both sports. He was a member of the golf team, played trumpet in the school marching and concert bands, and was elected to the National Honor Society. Steven earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Business and in Occupational Therapy from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Steven’s work as an occupational therapist started at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He continued his career in Trenton, NJ after he married Patricia. The couple moved to Southbury, CT, where they have resided since 1994. For the next twenty years, Steven continued his work as an occupational therapist at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. As an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University, he also mentored students aspiring to be occupational therapists.

A gifted artist, Steven initially created tie-dye shirts then expanded his talents to ceramics. He perfected the art of making signature raku pottery and exhibited his pottery in many juried craft fairs and art galleries in Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York.

Steven, Patricia, and Jonathan enjoyed hiking together in many local and national parks. He was an avid sports enthusiast and shared his love of sports by volunteering in the local community as a basketball coach. He had a love of animals, a deep commitment to his family, and a dedication to his faith.
