SOUTHBURY- Ruth B. Warner, 89, beloved wife of the late Wilfred V. Warner, died March 12 at her home in Southbury. She was born January 5, 1931, in Holyoke, MA, daughter of the late David F. Babson, Sr. and Emma (Rikert) Babson.
A devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend, she will be remembered by her children, Chip Warner of Saco, ME, Rick Warner of Southbury, Ben Warner and his wife Claudia Allen of Emmaus, PA, and Susan Warner of Brewster, NY; her grandchildren, Seth Warner and his wife Maxélle Neufville, Magghie Warner, William Warner, and Nolan Warner; and her brother David F. Babson, Jr. She is predeceased by her sister Holly H. Babson.
Ruth graduated from Crosby High School and from the University of Connecticut, class of 1953. She married the love of her life Wilfred V. Warner that June. She raised her family in Wolcott and Newtown, and was an assistant librarian at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown before retiring to Heritage Village in Southbury. There she was a member of the Heritage Village Garden Club and president of the Heritage Village Library. She was a Cub Scout den mother and Brownie troop leader, bridge player, painter, flower gardener, and excellent cook who enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family. She was an avid UConn basketball fan and reader of mysteries and Pride and Prejudice. She loved vacationing with her family in Rockport, MA and traveling with her husband to Yorkshire, England and seeing the rolling green hills dotted with sheep.
A remembrance service is tentatively planned for June at South Britain Congregational Church, Southbury. This site will be updated with the details once the date is determined.
