SOUTHBURY - Richard Broderick, 74, departed this life on October 5, 2023 surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Claudia. Richard was born in Stamford on April 17, 1949 to Edward II and Lois (Brown).
Rich was a Systems Software Specialist, though his favorite job was coaching his children's teams in football, softball and basketball. He was a huge part of his children's lives and enjoyed chaperoning field trips to historical sites and museums-he was even able to share more information than on-site tour guides. Rich was a history buff and an avid reader. He was especially knowledgeable about WWII and his father's tour of duty through France. Many family vacations were spent at historical sights. Rich loved being outside in nature, whether it be the beach, the woods or at the Newtown Dog Park.
Rich was as equally devoted to grandparenting as he was a father-he never missed a game, concert, or play and loved having everyone home. He was thrilled to welcome his newest grandson in May. Rich loved board games, holidays, road trips, UCONN basketball, the NY Giants and the Yankees.
Rich is survived by wife Claudia and their four children: Richard J Jr (Jim), Mandy and Doug Cook, Holly, Lindsay and Michael Milversted and their six grandchildren: Veda, Olivia, Ella Jane, Talia, Brody, and Hunter.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South in Southbury. A Mass of Christian Burial commemorating Rich's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown.
