Peter Murray Tribute

SOUTHBURY - Peter F. Murray, age 78, of Southbury, formerly of West Haven, beloved husband of Judith DiNorscia Murray and father of Dena Murray Addenbrooke, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022. He was born in New Haven on May 24, 1944, son of the late Russell and Jeanne Murray.

Pete served in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer LPH-4 during the Vietnam War era. Following his time in the service, he was an officer with the Hamden Police Department for 31 years, during which he became Hamden's first Community Police Officer. This role suited his personality perfectly as he was able to connect with residents daily.  He was also a member of the HPD Benevolent Association and enjoyed the role of a very realistic looking Santa Claus for their Christmas parties each year.

Pete was an avid Boston Red Sox and lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. His hobbies were his boats  and his cars. He enjoyed taking an active role in his daughter's education and was president of the Sacred Heart Academy Fathers' Club when Dena was a student there. Upon moving to Heritage Village, he was a member of the American Legion Post 204, the HV Men's Club, and former president of the HV New Villagers' Club. Pete was most proud of his daughter Dena, her husband Bill, and his two beautiful granddaughters Harper and Tenley, whom he loved with all his heart.

Pete's memory will be cherished by his wife, Judi, his daughter Dena and her husband William Addenbrooke, his granddaughters Harper and Tenley of Southbury, his brothers Russell (Deborah) Murray of Milford, William (Susan) Murray of West Haven, Rick (Gail) Murray of Florida, niece Barbara (Andras) Lenches of Stratford, several nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by his brother Richard, and sisters Virginia and Jeanne.

Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Joan Ellen Gereg and the staff at River Glen Health Care Center for the support and compassionate care given to us in his last weeks.
