SOUTHBURY - Nora Jo Malgrande passed away peacefully in Wakefield, Rhode Island, on February 13, 2022, at home surrounded by family. She was the loving wife of Frank Malgrande for what would have been 58 years this March.
Nora was born on April 29, 1943, in Queens, NY, to the late Patrick Geraghty and Pearl (Molineaux) Geraghty.
Nora graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in Long Island City, Queens, in 1960 and went on to earn a secretarial degree from the Merchant's and Banker's Business School in Manhattan, NY. She specialized in shorthand, a lost art form. She had her first job with the production company for the soap opera, Search for Tomorrow, in Manhattan, NY. From there, she had a long and successful career as an executive administrative assistant for various companies, ultimately retiring in 2010 from IBM in Southbury, CT, after working there for several years.
In her retirement, she liked to read, garden, and crochet, making many beautiful heirlooms for her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake, and Christmas time was her favorite holiday for making cookies and roast dinners every year. She enjoyed talking with her many neighbors in Southbury and long-distance friends on the phone. She spent many enjoyable days at the beaches in Rhode Island. Montauk Point, NY, always held a special place in her heart, as she would take her children there when they were young.
Nora is survived by her husband Frank and their children: Angela (Malgrande) Fazio and her husband Roger of Wakefield, RI; Michael Malgrande, of Danbury, CT; and Christopher Malgrande and Kim Schettino, of Southbury, CT. She was preceded in death by her grandson Patrick Malgrande and has six other grandchildren: Nicholas and Ryan Fazio; Lily, Samantha, and Dylan Malgrande; and Molly Malgrande. They were the light of her life and will now be her legacy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Nora at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St S, Southbury, CT. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in the Daily Chapel of Sacred Heart Church prior to the Mass.
