Nora Elizabeth (Betty) Calderwood (nee McGarry) died peacefully early in the morning on June 15, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Rossport, County Mayo, Ireland in 1927.
She is survived by her three children, Brian (Marguerite), Patty McAvoy and Kathy Barrett (Ed), her five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, all of whom she loved very dearly.
She was married to James Calderwood for sixty four wonderful years, and is at peace by his side for evermore. They shared many happy memories in the Bronx and in Heritage Village CT.
She knit beautiful Irish sweaters and blankets for each of her grandchildren. She baked the best Irish soda bread and loved her geraniums, impatiens, and her garden full of flowers. She had great faith and prayed her rosaries and novenas every day. She liked to read mysteries, stay up to date on current events and always spoke her mind.
Due to current events, there will be a private Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury on Monday June 22, 2020 for the immediate family only, with a private interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. A memorial service will be planned for a future date. To leave a message of remembrance and find updated scheduling, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
