Michael Hatfield Tribute

SOUTHBURY - Michael J. Hatfield, 72, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at The Lutheran Home of Southbury. One day before the 1 year anniversary of our Mom Dolores C. Hatfield.

Michael was born on November 24, 1949 in Danbury, CT to the late LeRoy K. and Dolores C. (Klesitz) Hatfield.

Michael leaves behind his brother Edward, his wife Lynn and their daughter Lauren. His sister Denise, her husband Brian and their daughter Eva. As well as his Aunt Joan, Aunt Tess and many cousins.

Michael was a very hard working and energetic young man growing up, working at local farms, driving his tractor and entering his prized oxen in many local fairs. He was inducted in the Army at 18 and was 2 weeks from finishing his stint in Vietnam when he was ambushed by enemy soldiers while on night watch. His injuries resulted in a TBI that left him partially paralyzed and unable to speak. It was a long time before we would know if he'd even survive.

Our mom and dad, LeRoy K. Hatfield quit their jobs to take care of him when he finally came home. Dad for 41 years until he passed and mom for 50 years until she passed. It was a long road with many bumps along the way but Mike was as content as he could be, always a big smile for everyone he would come in contact with. It was truly an incredible act of Love and Devotion amongst the three of them!

There were many people that helped mom and dad over the years and the love and dedication they showed to Mike will always be remembered by us. Nancy, Joanne, Pam, Tka, Philip, Junior. We will always have a special place in our hearts for you.

Michael will always be remembered as a great Veteran, Son, brother, nephew and cousin that will be sorely missed.

A Graveside Service for Michael will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made in Michael name to the Southbury Ambulance Association.
