Marion Sullivan, age 95, of Southbury CT, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2020.
Marion was born on March 11, 1925, in Chelsea, Massachusetts to the late Isaac and Bertha (Penniman) Phinney. She received her nursing degree from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital and eventually settled in Old Greenwich, CT where she raised her family. The bulk of her career was spent at Greenwich Country Day School where she was the beloved school nurse for many years. Marion loved her family, friends, the beach, playing cards, ice cream, Frank Sinatra, and The Boston Red Sox. Her biggest love however was her grandchildren whom she shared a strong connection with that they will cherish forever. She will be remembered by her endless energy and sassiness that never diminished.
Marion is survived by her three daughters: Laura Backus of Stratford, her son-in-law Robert and granddaughter Erin, who had a special place in her heart; Lisa Winchester of Portland, Oregon and her wife, Kim Gerhardt; and her daughter Susan Sunderland of Duxbury, Massachusetts and her grandchildren Tyler, Wyatt and Anne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Kenneth Phinney, William Phinney and her sister Irene Struthers.
Relatives and friends may attend a public visitation on November 7 from 2 PM - 4 PM at Carpino Funeral Home in Southbury, CT, 750 Main St South, Southbury, CT 06488. Followed by spreading of her ashes with her immediate family members. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to Alzheimer's Foundation.
