Southbury - Marie DeFilippe, 98, of Heritage Village passed away on January 15, 2021 at St. John Paul II Center in Danbury. She was the wife of 60 years to John Defilippe who previously passed away.
Mrs. DeFilippe was born August 1st, 1922 in Brooklyn NY – the daughter of Gaetano Barone and Dominica Fontana.
She and her husband were married in 1947 and eventually moved to Garden City Long island where they raised their 3 sons.
During the 31 years that they lived there, she worked at Doubleday Publishing as an assistant and Centroid Inc as a Circuit Technician. Marie and her husband moved to Heritage Village in 1982. There she became an active member of the Italian club and Sacred Heart Church working with her husband to plan dances and gatherings. Among her many accomplishments was receiving an award for volunteering at the Gainfield Elementary School Library where she volunteered for almost 10 years.
She is survived by her son’s John Jr and Thomas along with grandchildren and step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her oldest son Joseph.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and cooking for her family. Marie was a regular at the Heritage Village Gym and attended masses at Sacred Heart until they had restrictions due to COVID-19.
