Tribute

Lizabeth Rene Bourret passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 aged 59 in Bethel, CT from complications of dementia.   Lizabeth was born on April 8, 1963 to Leopold and Mona Bourret and grew up in Stamford, CT until the family moved to Easton, CT where she attended Joel Barrow High School graduating in 1981.  Lizabeth attended the University of CT at Storrs graduating in 1985 with a degree in Political Science and French Studies from the University of Upper Normandy in Rouen, France.  She returned to UCONN for an additional degree in Horticulture/Agronomy which formed the basis of her career choices.

Lizabeth was a nature lover interested in the environment, gardening, and organic farming and her work and hobbies reflected these interests.  She had a vibrant and successful career in the San Francisco Bay area primarily focused on organic produce when it was novel and first being regulated and marketed in the 1990s.  She contributed to the development of standards for the certification of organic produce.   She gave workshops, wrote articles and produced marketing materials on fruits and vegetables for natural food retailers.    She worked for Veritable Vegetables in San Francisco for over a decade as a Produce Buyer, and Organic Certification Specialist.

She moved to the Santa Cruz area in 2005 and worked as a Commodity Buyer and Import Specialist for produce companies and travelled on business to Peru, Mexico and Chile and throughout California sourcing produce from area farmers.  She loved the Santa Cruz and Capitola area and especially enjoyed exploring the beaches and towns with her beloved rescue dog, Chyna.

Lizabeth loved camping and hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains and exploring the coastline of California with her many friends; biking, hiking and enjoying the outdoors.  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed dining out, artisan bakeries, craft breweries and visiting vineyards.  She loved music, dancing, and travel and was a talented gardener.
She lived her life with spirit and grace, charming most everyone she met.  She loved learning and being active and passionately believed in protecting the environment.  She volunteered for the Sierra Club in the San Francisco Bay Area and for Save our Shores in Capitola, California.

More recently Lizabeth moved back east to live with her mother and they enjoyed many years together in the wonderful Traditions neighborhood in Southbury, CT.   She loved cycling and hiking with her family and friends in beautiful western Connecticut.  She adored her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed the many family parties, celebrations and holidays held over the years.  Lizabeth will be missed by her family, friends and her many acquaintances.   She was a bright and shining light with a beautiful smile and a friendly spirit always willing to help out and share a laugh along the way.

Lizabeth is survived by her dear Mother, Mona Bourret and her sisters; Jeanne Locke, Rachel Keneally, Lise Clancy,  Mona Anne Bourret and her brother Peter Bourret.

There will be a private memorial service held early next year. To honor Lizabeth's memory donations to the Sierra Club, Audubon and the Alzheimers Organization would be fitting. The Carpino Funeral Home of Southbury has been entrusted with the arrangements. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
