John Dyer Cassidy

WOODBURY - John "Dyer" Cassidy passed away at home on Sunday, March 12, 2023 where he resided for 75 years in his family homestead. Dyer was born July 19,1947.  

Dyer loved Woodbury very much. He was very influential and never gave up on restoring the historical marker on Main St. North. With many years of not giving up, love for his town and help from friends, his dream came true.  Dyer graduated from Forum High School in Southbury and then attended Windham College in Vermont.  Dyer's many jobs included Waterbury Buckle, Radio Shack, Verizon, but his cherished job was working for Abilities Beyond where he provided transportation and companionship for a group of very special people who touched and warmed his heart everyday.  

Dyer was preceded in death by his Mother Dorothy Dyer Cassidy, Father Joseph Cassidy and Sister Sherman Cassidy Malone.  Dyer leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 37 years Lisa Henao Cassidy; his only niece who he adored Molly Malone; three nephews Charles and Suzanne Malone, Brian and Susan Malone, Brendan and Cristina Malone;  several great nieces and nephews and cousins.  Dyer also leaves his best friend of 50 plus years Tom Arras; and most importantly his soulmate Cassie Mae, his dog.  

Dyer had several pleasures in life which were skydiving, taking long rides with Cassie in the jeep, riding his 1970 Triumph motorcycle, watching Nascar racing, restoring old cane chairs, and meeting friends at the local watering hole.  Dyer was a very kind soul with a heart that was even bigger. He will be missed by many.  

At Dyer's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Southbury. A  celebration of Dyer's life will take place following the service at San Remos Restaurant, 135 Main Street North in Woodbury.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dyer to: the Woodbury Ambulance Association, P.O.
