Joan Marie Hennessey

Joan Marie Hennessey, 89, of Southbury, CT, peacefully departed this life in her sleep on October 13, 2023 while under Hospice care at River Glen Health Care Center. She is the beloved wife of the late George Hennessey.

Joan was known to be a simple and sweet woman. Growing up in Newtown, she was one of 10 children born to the late Margaret (Qubick) and Andrew Hunihan. She was a dedicated House Mother at Southbury Training School for many years, where she eventually retired from. During her time there, she met her best friend, Jackie Jones (and husband Thomas), who the family wants to acknowledge with gratitude for their friendship and care of Joan.

Joan leaves behind two loving sons, Michael Hennessey (and wife Helen) and Thomas Hennessey (and wife Judi); grandsons, George Hennessey (and wife Deirdre) and Michael Hennessey (and wife Holly); great-grandchildren, Ryan, Carina, Casey, and Caiden Hennessey; sisters, Lorraine Mihalick, Roseann Fox, and Ellen Short; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial commemorating Joan's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 23, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown.
