NEWTOWN - Frederick Andrews Ferris Jr., 55, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He was the loving son of Frederick Sr. and Kathleen (Carroll) Ferris.
Rick was born in Danbury, CT on August 16, 1967. He grew up in Newtown and attended Newtown schools, graduating NHS in 1986. In 1991, he went on to receive 2 Bachelors degrees from Sacred Heart University, and served as Sports Editor for The Spectrum in his senior year. Ultimately in 1995, he received his Masters degree in Business Administration from SHU while serving as a graduate assistant in the Sports Information Department . Rick worked for many years at UnitedHealth Group (Oxford Health Plans) in Trumbull and Shelton, most recently as a Regulatory Consumer Advocate.
On Nov. 12, 2015, Rick received a kidney transplant at Yale NH Hospital donated by Beth Mix, an altruistic donor, after being on dialysis for over 2 years.
Besides his parents, Rick leaves behind his beloved Godchildren Shane Paolozzi and Eva Liptak, along with his aunts: Margaret Carroll Jensen, Sharyn Carroll Demers, Mary Carroll, and Nancy Carroll O'Brien; uncle: Thomas Carroll; and cousins: Lisa Jensen, Scott Jensen, Jennifer Carroll, Jill Carroll, Michele Carroll, David Gaines, Susan Gaines Mykulowycz, Tracy Gaines, Keri Gaines, Sasha Petrovick, Dena Carroll, Celia Carroll, and Glenn Stewart. He was predeceased by his cousins: Jon Petrovick and Jim Carroll, and uncle James Carroll.
Rick was a life-long Yankee fan and concert goer with his many friends. He made yearly trips to, and was a member of, the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. Books and movies were a very large part of his life.
