Frank Sherkus, 95, passed away on August 7, 2022, at Griffin Hospital. He was the loving husband of Theresa (Yotz) Sherkus for 66 years.
Frank was born on November 4, 1926 in Yonkers, NY to the late Frank and Victoria (Sidor) Sherkus.
Frank served honorably and proudly as a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps where he was stationed at Keesler Field in Biloxi, MS.
Frank was a graduate of Yonkers' Commerce High School Class of 1942 and later furthered his education at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY. He was employed by the New York Central Rail Road, later Penn Central and then Con Rail. He started his career in the mail room and worked his way up to International Sales Manager of Freight.
His interests included ice skating, golfing, the Brooklyn Dodgers and bowling. An early visit to the 1939 NY World's Fair sparked a lifelong interest in the world of tomorrow. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and the music of Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. A longtime resident of Hastings on the Hudson, Frank contributed to the community as a scoutmaster in the Cub Scouts and as a lector for St. Stanislaus Church.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by two sons, Scott (Esther) of Hobart, NY and Mark of Carmel, NY; and grandchildren Ashley and Brian.
Friends may call upon the family on Wednesday, August 10th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. S., Southbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 11th at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd., Oxford. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers, NY.
