SOUTHBURY - Frances DiTaranto, 89, formerly of Heritage Village and the Lutheran Home in Southbury, departed this life on May 18, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent DiTaranto.
Frances was born in Tunis, Tunisia on July 4th, 1930 to the late Giovanni and Salvatrice (Castro) DiMiceli.
Frances attended the French schools and enjoyed the beaches of Tunis before moving to the United States when she was 17 years old. She settled with her family in New York and began to work in the garment industry where she would meet her husband, Vincent. They moved to the Bronx to raise their family. Frances loved to cook and would always have plenty of delicious Italian food on hand for anyone who came to visit. She loved her family very much and always wanted them around her – she loved to spoil her grandchildren!
Later in life, she loved being a part of the Heritage Village community, going with her husband to events with the Italian Club, to play Bingo and play cards with many of their friends. She attended Mass at Sacred Heart Church every Sunday and had a deep faith in Christ, who she now returns to for her eternal rest.
Frances is survived by her sons: Vincent and his wife, Karen of Brewster, NY; John and his wife, Maureen, of Shelton, CT and Mark and his wife Emily of Rowayton, CT and ten grandchildren: Vincent, Michael, Tony, Lauren, Christopher, Anna, Rosie, John, Allie and Juliet. She was predeceased by her three brothers Vincent, Joseph and Emil.
Private services will be led by her son, Deacon John DiTaranto and Msgr. Joseph Donnelly. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Southbury. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury at a date to be announced. The Carpino Funeral Home of Southbury has been entrusted with the arrangements.
