Esther Danoy Tribute

Esther Theresa Danoy of Southbury, CT, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 89 on November 2, 2020. She was a Southbury resident for almost 27 years.

She was born in New York City on January 15, 1931, a daughter to the late Manuel and Pura (Capo) Nacimento. She was the second eldest of six children and grew up in Manhattan.

Esther attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She became an accomplished seamstress and made much of her own clothing. Her talent was clearly displayed in her meticulous and stylish designs. She worked for Walton High School in the Bronx as a paraprofessional, assigned to counseling families with hardships. Her job was to problem solve and get students back to school. She was a retiree of AT&T, starting out as an overseas operator and later working in their customer service department. After moving to Southbury, she worked for our family business, Aerus Electrolux in Norwalk, as a valued sales person. She was bilingual and spoke in spanish to many customers, putting them at ease. She went on to work for Lord & Taylor as their Coach Specialist in their accessory department. Her final part-time job was as a greeter at the Gap in Southbury. Throughout her various careers in life, she was enriched by the people she met and that was the most rewarding aspect.

She had a strong sense of faith and dedicated herself to numerous service projects in her lifetime. She prepared meals for the priests at St. Athanasius Parish in the Bronx. It was her honor to serve the venerated, Fr. Terence Cooke, before he became the Archbishop of New York and later Cardinal. She was very proud to be a member of both LIFT and the Columbiettes at Sacred Heart Church, where she enjoyed working with all the inspirational women she met.

In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family, playing cards, knitting, sewing, and sharing her interior design skills. Esther had an amazing sense of humor and an incredible affinity for people. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was never hesitant to tell you she loved you and “God Loves You More.” She will be sorely missed.

Her death was preceded by her former husband, Joseph Danoy, brother Hector Nacimento, and son Michael Danoy. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Catherine McCrory and her husband, Daniel; son: Joseph Danoy and his wife, Anna; sisters: Innocenta Nacimento, MaryAnn Scotese (Jim), and Nancy Sipala (Joe); brother, Paul Davila, six grandchildren: Lauren Van Buren (Brad), Ryan McCrory, Colin McCrory, Evan McCrory, Jenna Danoy and Alyssa Danoy and numerous other loving family members, life long friends - “our precious angels.”

A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 13th, at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, CT. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY.
