OXFORD - Dody Hanbury, 64, passed away on March 7, 2020 at the Watermark at East Hill in Southbury. Dody was born in Bridgeport on September 19, 1955 to Timothy Hanbury and late Louis (Krause) Hanbury.
Throughout her life, Dody always had a true love of children and learning. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and became a special education teacher. In her career, Dody taught across Connecticut including Oxford Public Schools, The Foundation School, and at Ansonia High School. She helped to develop and expand the Life Skills program at Ansonia High School. She is remembered fondly by fellow teachers and students who always described Dody as creative, spunky, and hard-working. Dody also had a love of all animals, but especially dogs and cats. She owned many pets throughout her life and always used their anecdotal stories to amuse her friends and family. She also loved telling stories of her children and nephew and giving frequent gifts to her friends. As an avid QVC shopper, Dody was always up-to-date with the latest kitchen gadgets and bake ware. Her other hobbies included reading, decorating, and party planning.
In addition to her father, Dody is survived by: her son, Timothy J. Hanbury of Wolcott, her daughter, Ana Leya Hanbury of Waterbury, her brother, Timothy E. Hanbury of Lexington S.C., and her grandson, Daniel Hanbury of Wolcott. She also leaves her dogs, Cindy Lou Who and Matthew Blue, to the care and keeping of her family.
