Carmine "Tony" Squitieri, Jr. Tribute

SOUTHBURY - Carmine “Tony” Squitieri passed from this life on October 13, 2020. He was born in the Bronx, NY in January 1938, the son of Marietta Squitieri, nee Iavarone, and Carmine Squitieri, Sr.

In his youth, Tony had many interests including amateur boxing and motorcycles.  He worked in various professions over the years, but most especially enjoyed his pre-retirement years at the Postal Service driving a tractor trailer.

In the 1970s, he raced his sled dog team in the Northeast taking home wins in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.  He was an excellent dancer and enjoyed the disco era immensely. In the 1980s and 1990s he rescued many a neighborhood stray cat and participated in a Trap/Neuter/Spay program for feral cats. He was a self- taught woodworker and when looking for a place to retire, came upon the Heritage Village Woodworking and Metal shop while visiting his cousins Angelo and Marie Morelli in the Village.  That settled the question of where to retire, and in 2005 Tony, and his wife Pat, bought a condo, and he happily made beautiful furniture for their new home over the next 15 years.

Tony and Pat traveled extensively in retirement and enjoyed many trips to US cities, beaches and National Parks as well as several dream trips overseas.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, his son Dana and his cousins the Morelli’s.  He is survived by his loving wife Pat, his stepdaughter Jennifer and his brothers Alfonzo and Andrew, his sisters-in-law, Jean Neuenkirch, Joan Burke, Ann Johnson and brother-in-law Rob Kennard and their families.

A graveside service was held at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Watertown on October 16th. A Memorial Mass will be planned at a later date. Memorial donations may be sent to North Shore Animal League or the American Cancer Society. Tony’s family would like to thank the wonderful, caring and skilled Hospice Team at Hartford Health at Home for their support.  To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
