Barbara Engelman Tribute

Barbara ("Bambi") Engelman, 75, passed away on February 12, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Bambi was born on February 23, 1947, in Orange, TX to the late Charles B. March and Eleanor Pendleton March. As a Navy family, they moved around quite a bit and Bambi lived in Charleston, SC; Norfolk, VA; and West Palm Beach, FL, before ultimately settling in Madison, CT.

Although retired for a number of years, Bambi was a career teacher, having spent over 30 years working in the Monroe Public School system. In her free time, she was a gifted artist and loved watercolor painting, although she also took classes in other mediums such as oils and pastels. Her interest in art lead her to be very active with the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN), mostly recently serving as their vice president and then treasurer. She was also involved at her church, South Britain Congregational, serving on the PR Committee and as a Deacon. Her friends describe her as a "genuinely nice person," "a trusted confidant," and "lovely." Many noted they were "a better person for having known her."

Bambi is survived by her daughter, Katherine Mills and her son-in-law, Robert Mills of Southbury, as well as her two brothers, Eugene March of El Paso, TX and George March of Albuquerque, NM.

A private burial will take place at West Cemetery in Madison, CT. Friends and family are welcome to a celebration of life at South Britain Congregational Church in Southbury, CT on March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bambi's name to SCAN - scanart.org.
