William Bayer Tribute

SOUTHBURY - William A. (Bill) Bayer, 86, departed this life on February 13, 2019 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He was the beloved husband of Hildegard (Mayr) Bayer. Bill was born in New York, NY on September 21, 1932 to the late William and Josephine (Corbo) Bayer.

Bill grew up in New York City and attended Queens College. He had a wonderful, long career in managing export of metals at the AMAX Corporation, where he made many lifelong friends. Prior to that he served in the US Army from 1954-1955, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Bill was an avid reader, movie buff, and loved music and the theater. He had a quick wit and dry sense of humor and would keep everyone entertained. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Hildegard and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren, who he adored. A resident of Southbury for more than 40 years, Bill formed many special friendships, especially those from "the neighborhood".

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Hildegard; daughter Janice O'Keeffe and her husband Rick, and their children, Allie and Ryan; son Christopher Bayer and his wife Jennifer, and their children Robert and Jillian
