Southbury - MaryAnn, 78, died peacefully in her home on June 12, 2019 surrounded by her friends in Cottage 7A. MaryAnn was born in New Haven, CT on February 24, 1941 to Elizabeth Conway. She came to live at Southbury Training School at the age of five and has been a beloved member of her community since that time.
MaryAnn responded best to those who gave her undivided attention; she had a wonderful laugh and very expressive face. She enjoyed holding her stuffed animals and interacting with others with them. She also enjoyed being read to, beauty sessions, listening to music from past decades and enjoying the outdoors in the nice weather. MaryAnn remembers friends from the past especially Peggy who stayed in touch long after her retirement and her friend Tammy from her cottage. MaryAnn enjoyed weekly massages with Trish; this was an especially relaxing and comforting time for her. She was a member of the “Cheers” day program where she enjoyed music therapy, arts and crafts, sensory activities and going out on trips. She became a member of the “Bright Day” program in recent years and enjoyed attending with her friends. MaryAnn is survived by her guardians, Emily and Christine and members of her STS family who will forever keep her spirit and love in their hearts. She touched many people’s lives in her time at STS and will be greatly missed.
