Joseph F. Davey

SOUTHBURY - Joseph F. Davey, husband, father, grandfather and friend, died peacefully in Southbury, CT, on May 6, 2019. He was 89 years old. His ever present positive outlook and conscious appreciation for the love and friendship he enjoyed throughout his life never left him.

He is survived by Rosemary, his loving wife, his sons, Stephen and his wife Dania, Paul and his wife Kristin, John and his wife Maggie, and Joseph and his wife Susan, and nine grandchildren.

He began his career with a degree in construction technology and managed projects in the Midwest for a large construction company before returning with his family to the New York area as the director of building maintenance of Rockefeller Center. His drive to build was an avocation as well, restlessly completing projects that ranged from converting a Volkswagen bus to a camper van, designing and building his beloved house in Vermont, to managing the addition of a parish school for his church.

He felt his greatest achievement was his 65-year marriage to the former Rosemary “Rody” Geoghegan. They met as teens in the Bronx and married in 1953 after he completed two years in the US Navy.

The proud son of Canadian and Polish immigrants, he enjoyed regaling friends and family with his highly focused Polish vocabulary. He was an avid early adopter known for his love of new technology. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Rody throughout the US and Europe, especially their stays in Paris.

As his horizons grew closer he found daily opportunities to express his appreciation for the beauty he found around him and for the company of his wife, family and friends.  Often, as he drove up the hill to his home in Pocantico Hills NY, he would say to the person with him, “Isn’t this beautiful and aren’t we so lucky?”

He touched all those he met with his friendliness and humor and will be missed by all his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations may be made in loving memory of Joseph Davey to help the homeless in the area by making them in the name of St. Vincent dePaul Mission, sending them to P.O. Box 1612, Waterbury, CT 06721

Visitation and wake services will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 between 4:00 PM-8:00 PM in the Daily Chapel of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury CT 06488.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury CT 06488.  Interment will be private, and at the convenience of the family.
