Doris Fildes Tribute

SOUTHBURY - Doris Fildes, 96, departed this life on May 14, 2019, peacefully at her home. She was the beloved wife of George Fildes. Doris was born in Fairfield on March 11, 1923, to the late Everett and Vivian (Blackman) Banks. Doris and her husband were long-time residents of Southbury, having moved to the town in 1955.

Doris spent more than 45 years as a dedicated paraprofessional at Pomperaug Elementary School in Southbury. Much of that time was spent in the Kindergarten classrooms where she will be fondly remembered for teaching generations how to sew gingerbread dolls. She and her late husband were well-known around the New England fair circuit as great fans of horse and oxen pulls. She loved animals, country music, UCONN girls basketball, and lunch with her dear friends. Doris is survived by her son David Fildes and his wife Karen of Southbury.

It is suggested that contributions in her memory be directed to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Interment will be private at Pine Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Carpino Funeral Home of Southbury has been entrusted with the arrangements. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
