Bruce Rataic Tribute

SOUTHBURY - Bruce Joseph Rataic, 55, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at Waterbury hospital.  He was born in Hartford on July 12, 1964, to Lorraine (Laing) Rataic Makara and the late Francis “Frank” Rataic.  In December, 1976 he moved to the Southbury Training School from the Mansfield Training School where he had been since March, 1972.  Prior to that, in 1968 he was admitted to the Oak Hill School for the Blind in Hartford.

Mr. Rataic was a playful gentleman with a good sense of humor, who enjoyed contact with others.  With his deafness and blindness, Bruce loved musical vibrations, textured activity items, pleasant aromas, and being outdoors.  He had nice relationships with his caregivers and his day program instructor.  He especially enjoyed music therapy sessions.

Though he faced many challenges, Bruce made amazing progress over the years at the Southbury Training School.  Mr. Rataic’s family would like to thank the residential and medical staff at Southbury Training School for their loving and compassionate care.  He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and caregivers.

Besides his father, Bruce was predeceased by his sisters Claudia and Elizabeth, and his brother-in-law Kurt Beckers.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Rataic is survived by his brothers Gregory Rataic of East Hartford; David Rataic of Manchester, and his sisters Susan Beckers of Stella, NC and Maureen Rataic of Maysville, NC as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carpino Funeral Home of Southbury. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service that will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August, 27, 2019 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Hartford.
