SOUTHBURY - Susan Cole, 72, passed away on April 2, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut where she was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family in the days ahead of her passing. She was the loving wife of James Cole for 46 years, a mother, and a grandmother.
Born on December 7, 1951 in New York City, Susan was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Rita Murray and the older sister of the late Tanis Lefer. She attended high school in Yonkers, New York and earned a bachelor's degree from Iona College.
Susan and James retired from New York to Southport, North Carolina and recently began living part-time in Southbury, Connecticut to spend more time with their family, especially their granddaughter. Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed vacationing with her family on the ski slopes, at the beach, and camping. In her retirement, she and James traveled across the U.S. and internationally, often on riverboat cruises, to locations such as Alaska, Hawaii, Russia, Brussels, Greece, and more.
Susan is remembered as a brave, resourceful, passionate, resilient, and loving woman who encouraged those around her to always do their best and treat every day in life as a gift. Susan is survived by her dedicated husband James Cole and dog Maddie; daughter Corinne Ahrens, son-in-law William Ahrens II, and granddaughter Ainsley Ahrens; and, daughter Jaclyn Cochrane and son-in-law Samuel Cochrane.
Susan supported veterans and U.S. armed forces and advocated for cancer research and treatment. In honor of her memory and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at http://events.stjude.org/SusanColeMemorialFunding.
