Marie Abbot Tribute

SOUTHBURY- Marie Elaine Abbot, 79, a Southbury, CT resident departed this life on March 21st at Newtown Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of Richard L. Abbot. Marie was born in Stamford, CT on December 20, 1940, to the late Amerigo and Jenny (Santarsiero) Passaro.

Marie attended High School at Mother of God Academy in Stamford, CT and went on to become the first member of her family to graduate college by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Danbury State Teacher's College (now Western Connecticut State University). Following graduation, she received her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Bridgeport. She was an Elementary School teacher for over 30 years. The last 20 years of her career were spent at Greenwich Catholic Elementary School. In 1996, she was listed in the Who's Who Among American Teachers.

Marie was a devout Catholic and was an active participant in the Church. In Stamford, at St. Leo's Parish, she served as a Eucharistic Minster, CCD teacher, and youth group volunteer. After moving to Southbury, she brought her love of the church to Sacred Heart Parish. There she volunteered as a member of various committees and helped maintain and set up the church on a daily basis.

Marie loved to cook and put together beautiful meals, especially during Holidays. She made sure there were always leftovers for all. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she prized spending this time with her family. Marie and Rick owned a home in Rhode Island and Marie always enjoyed visiting the beach each summer. An avid reader, she was especially drawn to mystery novels. Her favorite sport to watch and play was tennis.

Marie felt a spiritual connection to Angels and often would wear an Angel pin on her jacket lapel or purse. If you met Marie, at some time in your life, she prayed for you.

Marie is survived by her husband Richard L. Abbot, her children, Richard L. Abbot, Jr., and Christy M. Bartnicki, her brother Eugene Passaro, Sister-in-law Joanne Passaro, Daughter-in-law Laurie Abbot, and Son-in-law David Bartnicki. She was a loving grandmother who doted on her 5 grandsons, Connor, Luke, Adam, Jack, and Ethan.
