Maria de Lourdes (Coelho) Sousa

Maria de Lourdes Marques Coelho de Sousa, 88, departed this life on April 17, 2021 in comfort and peace at Danbury Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Mario Sousa.

Maria de Lourdes was born on December 14, 1932 in Lisbon, Portugal. She came from a modest background, but always strived to better herself and her family through hard work. In 1968 she immigrated to the United States with her husband and daughter to Danbury, CT. Maria de Lourdes worked for many decades in several roles and as a group leader at Branson Ultrasonics and retired with her husband to travel, enjoy life, and to spend more time with her daughter and grandchildren.

Maria de Lourdes was a very compassionate and generous person and enjoyed providing the little pleasures of life to her many friends, family, and neighbors. She will always be remembered for her incredible creativity and talent. Having started her career working as a seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and knitting all kinds of clothing for herself and her family. She enjoyed tending to her home and garden and the company of her family in whatever form it took. She was an extremely talented home cook and much of her love was shown by creating meals and baking for everyone in her life. She is deeply loved and will be forever remembered by those she has touched. 

Maria de Lourdes is survived by her devoted husband, Mario Sousa; her adoring daughter, Marilia Cole; her grand-daughter, Jennifer Porter, husband Jim Porter; her grandson Ken Cole, wife Catherine Cole and 5 amazing great grandchildren, Bryce, Colin, Caroline, Josie, and Clara.

A Memorial Service for Maria de Lourdes will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Maria de Lourdes be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
