SOUTHBURY - Joseph Supp, 97, went to heaven to be with his Savior on October 12, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Whittle) Supp.

He was born in Ansonia, CT, July 28, 1923 to John and Catherine Tuz Supp, graduated from Pine Trade School in Ansonia in 1941, worked at Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft Co. in Stratford, CT from Aug 1941 – Feb 1943.

Joseph joined the Navy and served in the Pacific theater during WW2 as a metalworker in aviation repair and overhaul on his ship and as a gunner in a Douglas SBD Dauntless A-24 Banshee dive bomber. He was Honorably Discharged from the Navy, Feb 1946, having served three years, as an Aviation Metalsmith Second Class USN-I.

In 1950 he graduated with a business degree from the University of Connecticut. He became a loyal UConn football and basketball fan for the rest of his life. While at UConn, he met the love of his life on a blind date, Joan Whittle, whom he married on June 18, 1949 in Newtown, CT. After college, Joseph had a business selling life insurance and real estate.

He was a substitute teacher in math and history at Bethel High School for several years, which he thoroughly enjoyed, then worked as a manager for the State of Connecticut Dept of Transportation, retiring in 1981.

He was totally devoted to his family and was very involved in sports with his children. He took them fishing and skiing for years and helped with coaching baseball, football, and basketball. He was a good golfer. He coached Walther League basketball for Immanuel Lutheran Church for several years. He enjoyed singing in church choirs and doing solos of great hymns. He was quite gregarious and easily made friends wherever he went.

Joseph and Joan lived in Newtown in the 1950’s, in Danbury, CT from 1959 to 1981, Bradley Beach, NJ from 1981 to 2002 (spending many winters in Saint Simons Island, Georgia during this time) and lived in Heritage Village, Southbury, CT from 2003 to present.
