Gary Schild Tribute

Southbury - Gary Schild, a longtime resident of Heritage Village passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Griffin Hospital just a few months before his 100th birthday.  Gary was born in Berlin, Germany on January 8, 1921.  Educated in Berlin and Hamburg, he immigrated to the United States in 1950 to pursue employment opportunities.  A few years after arriving in the US, he met and married Bernice Evans who predeceased him in 1987.  They had one son, Peter Schild who resides in  Maine along with his wife Patricia and daughter, Kelsey.  He married Norma Skelly in 1996 who predeceased him in 2014.

Gary’s career in manufacturing included positions in production and purchasing, retiring in 1983 from AMF Cuno Engineering Division.  Gary’s interests included researching his family history, antiquing, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, scrabble and chess.  His sense of humor and enjoyment of life stood out to everyone who knew him.  He was always ready to play another game and patiently spent time teaching others to play chess.  Gary was also genuinely interested in others opinions and ideas and engaged with everyone he met.

In addition to Peter, Patricia and Kelsey, Gary leaves his dear friend and companion, Joyce Cox and Norma’s children, Ross (Christine) Skelly and their children, Kristen, Erin and Brian, Paul (Barbara) Skelly, Marian (James) Decesaris and Robert Skelly.  Services will be private and will be held at a later date. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
