Donald Meyer Tribute

OXFORD - Donald Charles Meyer passed away peacefully at the Hearth of Southbury on June 22, 2021.

He was born on May 2, 1943, in Peekskill, NY, the son of George and Helen Meyer.
He graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics, in Queens, New York, and received his FAA  A/P licenses as well as his Degree in Avionics.

He worked for the Union Carbide Corporate Jet fleet for 36 years, running the avionics department and eventually becoming the Chief of Maintenance.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the the Candlewood Sportsman's club from 1987 until he was honored as a lifetime member in 2019.  He founded, organized and ran the club's Annual Fishing Derby held at Bennett Park in Bethel.
He was a great historian and in 2005 became president of the Southbury Historical Society up until 2009 and was an active member for 10 more years.  He helped organize the March to Victory Rochambeau weekend in 2006, but it was the John Ludorf Barn project that was the most near and dear to his heart.  The barn is being restored to become a teaching tool for area schools.

He spent most of his retirement working in his organic apple orchard, and then, come fall, would be glued to his recliner rooting for his New York Giants football team!

He is survived by his loving wife Jean, of 56 yrs, and his children Lauren Blouin, of Watertown, CT, and Andrew Meyer, of Clearwater, FL.  His grandsons, Stephen and Sam Blouin, and Nicholas Meyer, created the joy in his life, and he took them on many hiking and biking trips, exploring the many old abandoned railroad lines of CT, another of his many passions.
