Dominic Canale Tribute

NEWTOWN - Dominic Canale, 79, departed this life on August 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Fry) Canale. Dominic was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 18, 1940 to the late Mario and Olga (Poggi) Canale.

He served his country as a member of the United State Navy. Upon return Dominic began his career as a Civil Engineer for Spencer, White and Prentis, a company his late father also worked for. During his career Dominic helped in building the NYC Police Headquarters, the FBI building in Washington DC, the Midland Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan, among many other notable buildings across the US. Dominic met his wife, Margaret, in Los Angeles in 1969, and they were married shortly after on October 18, 1969. Dominic and Margaret settled in Sandy Hook in 1971 where they have lived since. Dominic made many friends and impacted the lives of many in the community where he and Margaret raised their three children. After retiring in 2008 Dominic enjoyed spending time at his log cabin in New Hampshire and spoiling his grandchildren, who he loved only second to his wife and children.

Besides his wife, Dominic is survived by his children Denise Canale of Southbury, Gregory Canale of Sandy Hook and Theresa (Canale) Gerardi, of New Fairfield. Above all Dominic was "Poppy" to his grandchildren Alexis (Gerardi) Dunn-McDonagh and her husband Mason of Vernon, Nicholas Gerardi of New Fairfield and Johnathan Gerardi of New Fairfield. In addition to his parents, Dominic was predeceased by his sister Virginia (Canale) Zinant.
