Claire H. Fitzgibbon

Claire H. Fitzgibbon, 60, of 42 Yankee Drive, Southbury, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 in her home surrounded by those who loved her.

Claire was born in Greenwich, CT on August 25, 1961, she was a daughter of the late Gerald F. Fitzgibbon and Adeline (Hargreaves) Fitzgibbon.  Claire came to live at the Southbury Training School on March 20, 1976.  

Claire was a kind, friendly, affectionate and expressive woman who had a wonderful smile that would light up your day, she loved to laugh, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Claire also loved fashion, feminine clothes and admiring her outfits in the mirror.  She loved spending time with her friends and care givers and truly enjoyed watching everything that was going on around her.  Claire enjoyed sitting by the door and greeting everyone who entered her home, looking out the windows and spending time outdoors.

Claire also had a love for music.  Claire loved Holiday Parties, Song Fests, Block Dances, Gate House Concerts, Musical Events, Music Therapy and any chance to get outside including Scenic rides.

Claire loved her home and those she shared it with.  Claire valued, and was valued by her family, friends and caregivers

Claire was a member of the Cheers Day Program for many years and thoroughly enjoyed her time with her peers and Instructors. During her time there, Claire enjoyed Sensory and Group activities, Reminiscence, Arts & Crafts and Music Therapy.  

Claire was an amazing woman who faced many health challenges in her life with the support of her medical, nursing and residential staff.  She was a fighter who faced these challenges with a positive attitude and strong motivation.  Claire shined through it all.    

Claire is survived by her sisters Marian Fitzgibbon (Gerard Rose)  and Joan F. Burt (Tim) and her nieces and nephews, Paul Cella, Joseph Cella, Camille Rose, Michael Burt and Elizabeth Burt.  She will be missed by her family, friends, and staff who have worked with her over the years.
