Hugh James Schrowang, 69, of Southbury, formerly of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on July 31, 2019.
Hugh was born in Kingston, NY on December 23, 1949 to the late Hugh and Violet Schrowang. The family moved to Palenville, NY when he was a young boy. Hugh attended Hunter Tannersville High School where he met his beloved wife Jeannie Marie (Sasso) Schrowang. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends on June 28th. After getting married and starting a family, Hugh continued his education earning a bachelor's degree from Suny New Paltz while working for IBM. He lived in High Falls, NY during this period of his life. In 1998, he accepted a new position with IBM moving to Durham, North Carolina where he and his wife lived until 2009 when they purchased their retirement home in Myrtle Beach, SC. During his time with IBM he had the opportunity to work internationally traveling to France, Denmark, China, Japan and Guadalajara, Mexico. Hugh also had a love of classic cars, purchasing a 1968 Buick GS 400 which he restored and enjoyed for many years. He was an avid and skilled game hunter and fisherman. His other joy in life was playing golf with his family and friends. He had an incredible quick wit and a wicked sense of humor, bringing smiles to many. He had great love for family and strived to be as supportive as he could during difficult times.
Besides his wife Jeannie, Hugh will be missed by his daughter Deidre Schrowang of Manhattan, and his son Hugh and wife Jolene Schrowang of Brookfield, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jillian, Brandon, Alexander, and Ella. Hugh leaves behind 8 siblings: Christine (Tom), Debra, Craig (Kathy), Brian (Cindy), Mark (Sandy), Tammy, Tim, and Joseph (Jackie); as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
