Charles "Chuck" Edward Lewis Jr.

Charles "Chuck" Lewis, 64, went home with the Lord at 3:09pm on Friday, July 3, 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones. Chuck was born in Derby, CT on February 23,1956 to Charles and Joanne (Gabianelli) Lewis, who predeceased him in 1991. Chuck grew up in Ansonia where, as a young man, was active in the Boy Scouts, Junior Marines, Ansonia High School football team and an altar boy at Holy Rosary.

After high school, he became an EMT with New Haven Ambulance, which led to his career in Nursing. He graduated Bridgeport School of Nursing with an Associates Degree. After a few years working out of state, he returned home to begin his 30 year career at Waterbury Hospital as a highly regarded RN on Pomeroy 7. In 2013, he was elected by his peers President of the 1199 Nurses Union at Waterbury Hospital, a position he served in for 6 years. He was also on the Executive Board of Directors for the Union for 3 years. During this time, he was instrumental in negotiating the Nurse's contract during the purchase of the hospital by Prospect Medical Holdings. Over his years of employment he was a teacher and mentor to many of the nurses on staff. Patient care and comfort were his priority. They could not ask for a more calm and compassionate care giver. He was unmatched. Outside of work he enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating and had an avid interest in Native American arts and culture. In 2016, he developed his own formula for a CBD salve to treat a variety of health conditions. In February 2020, he retired due to health restrictions and enjoyed his final days with family and friends. He faced his condition with great strength and courage. A fight well fought with a peaceful conclusion. His was a life well lived and respected.

He is survived by his father Charles of Oxford, beloved partner Carol Nakagawara of Ansonia, former spouse Kim and a large extended family. A memorial Mass will take place 9 am Saturday, July 11 at St.Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. Please be advised seating is limited and everyone must wear a mask.
